Description:
One of three original Island-wide districts nominated and designated by the early Commissioners. Together they form the backbone of DCPC protection. The Special Places District includes an inland pond zone, a hilltop zone, and a historic and cultural zone.
Boundaries:
within 100' of extreme high water of the inland ponds; hilltop and historic boundaries specific to each place
Designation Criteria:
cultural or historic resource; major public investment, hazardous district
General Restrictions:
special permit with site plan review for most uses involving structures; in hilltop zone, height may not break the treeline; in inland ponds zone, no on-site sanitary disposal facilities
