Maps of MVGood information is the basis for wise planning and good decision-making, and maps are often the best way to organize and visualize information. The MVC’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) department is the community’s most comprehensive resource, providing mapping services to the Commission, the County, towns, and the community at large.

Prepared Maps

Over the years, the MVC has prepared hundreds of maps on a wide variety of topics. Click here to visit our Map Library.  Here you will find quick links to some of the most sought-after maps.  To search the entire Resource Database, click this link to search for additional maps prepared by the MVC. These prepared maps come in PDF or JPG format which can either be printed or saved to your computer.

Interactive Maps of Dukes County

You can customize your own maps using a series of online mapping tools, by clicking on this link.  These maps work in a similar way to Google Earth, but contain detailed data for Dukes County. You can turn different data layers on and off, zoom in on specific areas, and click on items of interest for more information.

MVC’s Mapping Services

The MVC’s mapping department provides assistance to the county’s seven towns, Island’s non-profit groups, and the general public. Using the most current and accurate data available for the region, our mapping services include cartography, spatial data analysis, field data collection, and compilation of the county-wide map data warehouse.

Contact MVC cartographer Chris Seidel for custom map production or for data to use in your own map.  Our spatial data conforms to MassGIS data standards and is in ESRI format. If you’re unsure of what specific data to request, the MVC has a Map Data Inventory DVD which contains many of the popular data sets (i.e. parcel data, watershed boundaries, zoning, wetlands, public points of interest, etc) for Dukes County.  The DVD cost is $10 plus shipping.  For other fees associated with printing hard copies and custom products, please consult the fee schedule.  To view a detailed list of the data on the DVD and other data available upon request, please view our Map Data Inventory List.
