The MVC convenes the following groups to enhance climate resilience on Martha’s Vineyard. The public is welcome to attend these online meetings. See MVC Calendar for meeting dates, times, and agenda.

• Climate Action Plan Community Coordinating Committee (2^nd Friday 9:30am monthly): Shares ideas for implementing Climate Action Plan and identifies areas of coordination across towns with all the Climate Committee chairs, County, and representatives from NAACP and Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah).
• Climate Action Task Force (1^st Friday at 9:30am quarterly – March, June, September, December): Discusses climate news and policies.

Mapping Storm Tide Pathways on MV

Storm Tide Parthways (STPs) describe spatially how coastal waters can flow inland during a flooding event with storm surge, extreme high tides, and sea-level rise.

Through field research and computer modeling conducted by the Center for Coastal Studies and the School for the Environment at UMass Boston, 700 STP locations have been identified across the Island. STPs are a critical regional climate adaptation planning tool.

Hazard Mitigation Plan

The 2021 Dukes County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update has been adopted by all seven towns and formally approved by FEMA. The Community Wildfire Protection Plan has been incorporated into the HMP as an amendment in the form of an initial Appendix. The Second Appendix is a separate file for the sake of conforming to cloud storage limits. Please take a look to better understand vulnerability in your area of interest, along with what actions can be taken to reduce this risk.
