Greetings Fellow Islanders,
The Martha’s Vineyard Commission’s Climate Action Task Force (CATF) Education Committee is excited to announce a weeklong community event to celebrate the Island’s commitment to climate action for a resilient future. The Climate Week theme is: “A Climate to Thrive – Martha’s Vineyard 2040,” and will take place November 1 – 6, 2021. We invite you to participate!
Please join us for a Zoom meeting to learn more about Climate Week and discuss ways your business, organization, or association can take part and showcase your commitment to a resilient future.
When: We’ve chosen the week of November 1 – 6, 2021 to coincide with the United Nations Climate Conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
What: We are planning a week of events – ranging from family friendly to industry specific, educational to inspirational – to increase our community’s awareness of climate issues, share steps we can take to prepare for changes, and build a sense of community and connection to take on this challenge.
By 2040 we hope to be a largely renewable energy Island and have in place many initiatives that help protect our environment, infrastructure, health, economy, and overall quality of life. While we set these goals, it is important to have moments such as this to envision how we get there.
How: Our hope is that many of you will organize an activity or event during the week, which will be complemented by a few major events (an electric vehicle parade, a climate awareness fair, a guest speaker, etc.). We encourage you to take part in a way that works for you and/or your organization/business.
Next Steps: We have scheduled two Zoom meetings to further explain our concept, hear your ideas, and share feedback. The Zoom meetings will be on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 11:00 am and 7:00 pm. Please pick the one that works best for you.
We hope this will be a community-wide event with activity everywhere!
Turning challenges into opportunities –
Sincerely,
Liz Durkee, MVC Climate Change Planner
