GET INVOLVED

BECOMING A COMMISSIONER

If you are interested in becoming a Commissioner, you can either run in the Island-wide elections held every two years, or you could be appointed by a town, the county or the Governor or a member of his cabinet. For further information, please contact the Commission Administrator.

VOLUNTEERS

The Commission can always use volunteers to contribute to the work of the Commission's committees or to help in various other capacities.

No positions available.

INTERNS

The Commission often hires interns during the summer to help with specific studies. Although salaries are modest and accommodations are not provided, this can be a good opportunity to spend a summer on the Vineyard working on a worthwhile project.

No positions available.

DONATIONS

The Commission is funded from assessments to the towns, from grants and from donations. Since the availability of funding from the first two sources is limited, the Commission will have to increasingly count on the third source to give it the funds needed to do its job as effectively as it would like.

According to Chapter 831, its enabling legislation, the Commission may accept gifts of land, buildings, interests in land, or any funds or monies from any source including grants, bequests, gifts, or contributions made by an individual, association, or corporation or by any municipal, county, state or federal government. Funding is needed to support planning efforts, public information, building repair and legal costs. For further information about making a donation to support the work of the Commission, consult: DonateToMVC [document not yet available online] .
