The MVC adopts policies to assist applicants in designing projects and preparing applications, and to guide the Commission in DRI.
This policy, which applies to all subdivisions as well as developments on parcels greater than 3 acres; calls for setting aside certain portions of most of these properties as permanently protected open space.
This policy seeks to ensure that new projects do not cause excessive nitrogen loading and further deterioration of water quality in the Vineyard’s fragile coastal ponds; also deals with freshwater ponds, groundwater, and large water withdrawals.
This policy gives basic guidance about the layout of the development in relation to the property, as well as about landscaping and lighting. Energy and Environmental Building Policy
This policy deals with minimizing fossil fuel use by employing energy efficiency techniques and renewable energy sources, and also encourages the use of environmentally sound “green-building” design techniques.
Affordable Housing Policy
This policy seeks to mitigate the impact of residential and commercial development on low and moderate-income housing.
